How did it all start?

The first edition of Lumina Math took place in Bucharest and Constanta in 1997- 1998, but only for grade VIII. There were 600 students participating to the competition. The questions were logic problems.

How did we evolve?

Owing to the special requests of teachers and school inspectors, we have extended the competition for grades V, VI and VII. In 2000 the exam papers were corrected and reports given by a computer program created by one of our students. In 2004 we started using special forms for the students and in 2005 there were already 11500 students from 21 participating. In 2008 the competition reached a national level, thanks to the cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth. We had approximatively 17000 students participating.
